Thruxton RD4 – 18th-20th September 2020

We were at Thruxton Racing Circuit, Hampshire for Round 4 of the Ginetta Junior Championships. After a disappointing Round 3 three weeks prior in Scotland at Knockhill, I was determined to regain the lost points to reclaim my top 5 spot in the championship.

On Friday we were once again working with British Touring Car Laser Tools driver Aiden Moffat, with Aiden giving us coaching throughout the day. In FP1, we placed P14, using the session as a shakedown for the car and to sort out the setup for FP2 and the rest of the weekend. FP2 we placed P1, our first time topping the timesheets in Ginetta Juniors.

Saturday morning we started with FP3, where we placed P5 ahead of qualifying. Qualifying was disappointing, running the whole session while not finding a tow on any lap, meaning we qualified P8 for Race 1 and P7 for Race 2. Race 1 was on Saturday afternoon, finishing P6 and P3 Rookie from P8.

Sunday we were only out on track once for Race 2. We started P7 and were running in P3 up until a red flag. Upon the red flag restart we were in P3 and on the first lap of the restart were tagged on the front putting us into a spin, then to be collected and have the rear suspension damaged causing us to retire the car.

A disappointing end to the weekend with a podium almost certain, but many positive to take into Round 5 at Silverstone next weekend.
