Knockhill RD3 – 28th-30th August 2020
We were at Knockhill, Scotland, for the third round of the Ginetta Junior Championship. We came into the weekend having never been at the track before.
Friday we were once again working with Laser Tools British Touring Car driver Aiden Moffat as our driver coach, helping us throughout the day with getting to grips with the track and helping us improve throughout the two Free Practice sessions that we had.
Saturday we started with qualifying, where we qualified P10 for Race 1 and P11 for Race 2, a disappointing qualifying compared to where we were at Brands Hatch just three weeks before! Race 1 followed, and after a race filled with safety cars we finished in 12th place.
Sunday we hard Race 2 and 3! Before Race 2 we got hit with a grid penalty which meant we would be starting from P14. Another safety car filled race made it hard to get into any rhythm, however we slowly picked people off throughout the race to end in 8th place, along with fastest rookie lap and second fastest lap of the race. Then we had the televised Race 3 where we started in P8 as a result of finishing in this position in Race 2. We got into P7 at the first corner, however was taken out at Turn 3 into the gravel and dropped back to P20. This meant that a recovery drive was needed, racing back up into P12. A very respectable result considering the circumstances regarding the first lap of the race.
A disappointing weekend, but with lots of experience gained at Knockhill for the future.
A three week break and then we are down South at Thruxton for Round 4 of the Ginetta Junior Championship!
